Race Report: Southern Athletics League Race 2 – Mile End
Words by Tony MacDowall.
The second fixture took place at our home stadium. Mile End Stadium was a hive of activity on a bright Sunday afternoon. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, ran, jumped and threw some heavy objects, and to Chairman Dave Robinson and Anna Fiedlerova for officiating all day.

Well done to Aaron McGrady, Hannah Somani, Jade dos Santos, Laura Kaye and David Shortridge for stepping up to do extra events on the day. Many highlights from the day but events definitely worth a shout out are:
- the women’s 5000m with Laura, Hannah, Jade and Lydia Briggs all running personal/seasons bests
- the men’s steeplechase with Aaron finishing second in a very fast time and great water jump technique.
- the women’s steeplechase: Jade and Hannah attempting the event for the first time and completely dominating to win by over 200m.
- the women’s team definitely accounted for the majority of the team points on the day. We need more of our quicker middle distance men to compete at the next match.

- Sun 9 July – St Albans
