Medalists and Club Record Breakers at Junior SEAA Champs
Gavin LauFour of our Junior athletes picked up medals at The Southern Age Group Champs, at Walton on 11th August. Several of our athletes’ outstanding performances lifted them towards the top of the UK rankings in their events. Besty Agboola in the 300m and Laureen Okhogenu in the Hammer also broke Junior club records.
Outstanding Performances
Betsy Agboola – Gold in the 300m in 40.39, breaking the club U15W record for a second time, having run 40.79 finishing 5th at the EA English Champs in July. Currently ranked 9th in the UK.
Nereci Da Silva – Gold in the U17W Triple Jump, with a PB of 11.91, that ranks her 4th U17W (and 32nd among all women) in the UK. Nereci also won Gold at the EA Champs.
Kai Fellows – Bronze in the U17M 400m in 49.84. Kai’s PB of 49.58, when finishing 6th in the EA Champs, ranks him 12th in the UK.
Zhane Pilgrim – Bronze in the U15W High Jump with a PB of 1.55m.
Laureen Okoghenu – finished 4th in the U17W Hammer, just outside the medals. Her throw of 44.21m broke her own club record for the 3KG Hammer. The following weekend, Laureen also broke her own record for the 4kg Hammer (used in Senior competitions), throwing 37.10m at the Hemel Hempstead SAL. She currently ranks 20th U17W in the UK for the 3kg HT.
Michelvi Wamba – Won Gold over 200m in the U20 Champs (held separately, with the Seniors Champs), in a time of 24.32. This ranks Michelvi 13th U20W (and 80th among all women) in the UK. Michelvi is also ranked 18th U20W (and 73rd woman) in the 100m. Over 200m, she was a finalist at the EA Champs, BUCS Champs and represented England at the recent U20 Home Countries International.

Betsy and Kai are coached by Alf Vickers; Nereci, Zhane and Laureen by Kelvin Richards. Michelvi, Nereci, Laureen and Kai are already SAL squad regulars. Besty, hopefully, will join us next year.
