Announcement: Annual award of the Paul Janko Trophy

Paul Janko was a teacher at Cubitt Town School he was also Secretary of Tower Hamlets Athletics Club (“THAC”) and heavily involved in the Tower Hamlets gymnastic group. When my Daughter joined THAC as a nine year old, he was the only person taking them to competition. I joined a couple of years later, and by that time Paul had already started a primary school championships, with one year hosting a match against Hammersmith. Paul continued as Secretary until THAC merged with Victoria Park Harriers. He then took a step back but continued with primary school sport until his death in 2016, he was 64.
As a tribute to someone who had started the Tower Hamlets primary school championships I decided to award a Boy and Girls award annually as a tribute to him, the first one was awarded in the year of his death. Please join us to congratulate the two athletes awarded the trophy in 2023: Kyiro Taylor and Alaia Ajanlekoko Gomendio, fittingly both members of our club.
