Strong VPH&THAC Performances in the London Marathon

Alex Lawrence led 61 members home at the biggest London Marathon, equalling his PB of 2:17:41 off the elite start line for an 18th place finish overall.

And while marathon organisers boasted about more than 50,000 people taking to the start line and a new record amount raised for charity, VPH had plenty of reason to celebrate in the biggest day on the race calendar.

Nine more men battled strongly against the breeze to break 2:40: Freddy Bennett (2:34), Jack Bibbings (2:31), Kevin Ferin (2:36), Tom Holliday (2:24; 56th place overall), Dan Kyne (2:34), Cedric Lassonde (2:40), Julien Lepretre (2:38), Sebastian Lewis (2:30), Tom Perkins (2:37). Notable mention must also go to Omar Elhag who also ran the Manchester marathon the week prior!

Coach Hobbs, meanwhile, overcame a stumble late on – captured on camera for posterity – to run a 2:43 that placed him as the 27th fastest in the 50-54 category.

Among the women’s field Cat O’Shea ran a very impressive 2:58 to finish 192nd, while there were remarkable performances from Katrin Flikschuh (3:14 to finish as third fastest in the 60-64 category) and June Barrow-Green (4:43 for 17th in the 70-74 category).
