Race report: Annual EM and VPH mob match (87th edition)
Gavin LauWhat a mob match! the 87th edition brought together 134 runners from our two wonderful clubs. A fantastic turnout for this marque fixture and the buzz in the clubhouse started long before the gun at 7:45pm.
A strong lead was stretched out by the 2 EM frontrunners. Congratulations to Robert Wilson (14:26) and Sean Renfer (14:33) on the podium. And VPH Joe Dale in 3rd (15:09) / also 1st Vet.
The front pack of VPH women worked as a group to take the overall podium in sub-18: Laura Thompson (1st 17:50), Jade Dos Santos (2nd 17:52) and Emily Seager (3rd 17:55). 1st vet on the night was Lee Milne of EM (19:44).
The winning team is the club that scores the least points and this was swung by the final amendment for the VPH 59th runner not to be counted (as per the scoring traditions):
VPH: 3389 (winner by 21 points)
EM: 3410
Though the 2023 victory goes to VPH on home soil, this will be a memorable one with such a stellar turnout and a team score that clearly went down to the tightest of margins.
