Welcome to Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets AC. We have listed some quick responses to frequently asked questions to help prospective or existing members. If the answer to your question is not here, then just drop an email to info@vphthac.org.uk
Who can join?
We are a very friendly athletics club based in Victoria Park, east London. We have a wide range of members, from absolute beginners to world-class athletes. We also have members who specialise in coaching, officiating and timekeeping. We offer training and racing opportunities for both Junior and Senior members across track & field, road racing and cross country.
How do I join, and what does the membership fee include?
If you would like to join please complete the membership registration form. We offer different memberships depending on whether you wish to be a first claim or second claim member of the club. All our membership details can be found on our website.
How can I trial the club sessions?
Prospective members are welcome to a two week trial before signing up to a membership. There is no need to pre-book a session and prospective members are welcome to turn up to the session and introduce themselves to the coaches. Full details on our training sessions can be found on our website.
Where is the running club based, and what facilities are available?
Victoria Park Harriers and Tower Hamlets AC have their own clubhouse located in the north east corner of Victoria Park. The clubhouse entrance is situated on Cadogan Terrace by the junction of Victoria Park Road.
The clubhouse is open on a Thursday evening from 18:30.
Facilities include:
– Male and female changing rooms and showers
– Accessible changing room
– Exercise Hall
– Free weights
– Licensed bar
How does the club communicate with paid up members, what social media accounts can I follow?
Communications are sent from the club via an email newsletter and through the website. We also have several active whats app groups used for race planning, informal run meet-ups, kit recommendations and general run chat. Members are welcome to join our members only facebook page and follow the club’s Instagram and Twitter feeds.
Can my child or teenager join the club?
The youngest age we are able to take children for athletics training is 9 years old. We would advise any children younger than 9 that are keen to trial athletics to keep active with sports such as swimming, football, tennis and if local to you, junior parkrun. This will prepare children perfectly for athletics at age 9.
How do I buy an official club running vest?
Club vests can be purchased from the clubhouse bar on a Thursday evening. The bar team will be able to take payment. If you have already paid for a vest as part of your membership sign up you will be able to collect your vest from the clubhouse on a Thursday evening. The VPH bobble hats (available in Navy and White) are also available to purchase from the clubhouse.
How do I put myself forward to volunteer for events / volunteer club positions?
Volunteers are always needed to help run our events and assist with the general running of the club. Club captains and race directors will put out calls for volunteers for events via the club’s communication channels. The bar also requires volunteers for cooking on a Thursday evening. If you are interested in helping out please speak to Susan Lease on a Thursday to add your name to the kitchen rota.
I am a member of another running club, how do I switch my first claim club or become a second claim member with VPH&THAC?
To transfer clubs to become a first claim member you need to complete the transfer process online via the following link. Change of Club – Athletics & Running. Once done your transfer request will be sent to club officials at your former club to approve. To register as a second claim member please complete the membership registration form selecting ‘second claim’.
