The Track

Mile End Stadium, 190 Burdett Rd, London, E3 4HL

Synthetic, 400m, 8 lanes, 8 lane straight. The track was originally cinder and called King George V Stadium and then East London Stadium. It was officially opened as a synthetic track on 9th September 1990 by Sir Arthur Gold and then became known as Mile End Stadium. The synthetic track surface was originally Spurtan BV, with the long- and triple-jump runways upgraded to Mondo in 2009. A complete upgrade to IAAF-approved Polyflex was conducted in 2012, paid for by the USA Athletics team, who trained at the track before and during the 30th Olympiad. USA Track and Field also donated their specialist gym equipment to the sports centre at the stadium. The infield is a grass football pitch and so hammer throw training is not allowed in the winter. In 2003, the throwing cage and SP circle were moved so that the football pitch could be lengthened to allow senior football to be played at the stadium. The whole facility is managed by Better.

Further details can be seen here.
